Kirubel Melke was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. In 2007 he graduated from National College in the field of Marketing. In 2013 he graduated with a BFA from Addis Ababa University’s, Alle school of Fine Arts and Design in the department of painting. Kirubel had a chance to experience different types of textiles while his mother was working at a garment factory.
During his third year as a student, in 2012, he used cloth that was washed and hung on a string as a conceptual drawing. Through this work he tried to tell the personal and the social status of the individual.
Kirubel continued with this style to express his personal, social and political feelings.
He has taken part in several group shows. These include exhibitions at the Gebre Kirstos Centre, the Fana Wogi in 2013, the Addis Art Fair 2014 and the National Museum of Addis Ababa.
