Yonas was born 1982, in Ethiopia, and is inspired by natural and artificial art and communication. He attended the Entoto TVET College, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 2009, graduating with a Diploma, Fine Art / Graphics Art.
He believes that both technology and art are considered ‘artificial’ because they are made by human beings, through creative action, and transcend the natural processes of all other living organisms. He says: science aims to know; art endeavors to express society’s cultural university that is open to all.
Art is also a channel of expression to release, elevate, and understand our inner conflicts, fears, and tensions as well as our aspirations, hopes and ideals.
Yonas paints and draws using different medium. He thinks about the media and space and in his artworks he reflects his strong belief that art can best be utilized to initiate and reinforce social changes.
Yonas has shown his work in several exhibitions including at the National Museum in Nairobi (Kenya), the Ethiopia Creates exhibition (USA) and most recently at Addis Art Fair (Ethiopia) and the Kampala Art Biennial in Kampala (Uganda).
He is currently a full-time studio artist.
